However, the 6000 at 5000 dpi trumped the Epson at 4800 dpi (the optics are clearly superior), but I think the Epson turns in a pretty creditable result considering the difference in price between the two. I can get a bit more detail at 4800 dpi from that than I got from the 6000 at 2500 dpi.

ICE isn't supposed to work with that because of the silver left in the developed film, but I found that it did work, though at the cost of scanning artefacts introduced on occasion where the software had mistaken image detail for dust. I did find the scanner to be quite noisy: I don't know if that's an inherent property, or that my rental had perhaps had a hard life! I also turn of sharpening (USM), but all my scans need fairly heavy USM so leaving sharpening on isnt such a bad idea IMO if you dont want to postprocess the files.
